The “Big Sins”
Christians like to rank sins.
Pride, partiality, using different weights, and making a judgement before hearing both sides are all just fine with the sin ranking committee. Heck, those are defended behaviors! If you are on the big sin list, just know God uses a different list.
“For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.”
James 2:10
The “big sin list” is made up by people who want to belittle someone else, or be seen as a class above. We are all guilty of breaking the entire law. We are law breakers, and the consequence is the same for everyone.
“The devil knows your name but calls you by your sin, God knows your sin but calls you by your name.”
Ricardo Sanchez
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
Romans 1:16
The archetypal bad faith religious person does not believe in the power of God. They have a form of godliness, but deny the power thereof. Our salvation is not secured, earned, or maintained by merit. Our holiness, ability to turn over a new leaf, baptism, or anything else influences salvation. Believers are sealed unto the day of redemption by the power of God.
God’s grace is a free gift we can receive if we just believe. Christians mock that idea denying God’s power.
“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life”
John 6:47
“Hath” is past tense. Your salvation is so sure that after you believe on Jesus, scripture talks about it as if it has already happened. You are not in the process of being saved, you are not getting saved, you are saved. You have salvation.
God called you by name, and you answered. His love is impartial, evergreen, and eager to be received.
If you find yourself on the “big sin list” I encourage you to read Matthew chapters 5-7. Jesus explains how the “big sins” are really committed in our heart. If we hate, we are murders, and if we look we lust we are adulterers.
If a big sin list exists, then we are all on it.

Thank you for sharing this article. It is a powerful reminder that what we often call the big sins are not just outward actions but problems that begin in the human heart. Many times people focus only on visible sins while ignoring the deeper attitudes that lead to them such as pride jealousy greed anger or selfishness. These sins slowly grow in the heart and can pull a person away from God if they are not confessed and turned away from. The Bible teaches that sin begins inside the heart before it appears in our actions.Jesus said in Matthew 15:19 For out of the heart come evil thoughts murder adultery sexual immorality theft false testimony slander. This reminds us that our greatest need is a changed heart through God’s grace. The Bible also warns us about pride which is often the root of many other sins.Proverbs 16:18 says Pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall. When a person allows pride to control their life it slowly separates them from God and from others. That is why God calls His people to live with humility and repentance before Him.But the good news of the Gospel is that God offers forgiveness and transformation through Jesus Christ.1 John 1:9 says If we confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.God does not only forgive our sins but also renews our hearts and gives us a new desire to follow Him.The Holy Spirit begins to work in us helping us turn away from sinful attitudes and grow in righteousness. The Bible also encourages believers to guard their hearts carefully.Proverbs 4:23 says Keep your heart with all diligence for out of it spring the issues of life. When we stay close to God through prayer and His Word our hearts become stronger against temptation and sin. That is why Scripture teaches us to pursue a life that reflects the character of Christ.Galatians 5:22-23 says But the fruit of the Spirit is love joy peace patience kindness goodness faithfulness gentleness and self control. When the Spirit of God is working in our lives these qualities begin to grow and replace the sinful desires of the flesh. This reflection is a good reminder for all of us to examine our hearts before the Lord and ask Him to cleanse us and guide us each day.May we continually seek God’s grace walk in repentance and live in a way that brings honor and glory to Jesus Christ.🙏
